Bad breath which is also known as halitosis may be caused by many things, but the most common cause is poor dental hygiene. Tiny bits of food get trapped in between our teeth when we eat and failing to keep a good dental hygiene leads to accumulation of bacteria in the mouth which results to bad breath.

1 Maintaining a good dental hygiene
Maintaining a good dental hygiene is the number one home remedy for preventing and treating bad breath. It is recommended that you brush your teeth at-least twice daily both in the morning and at night using a fluoride toothpaste and floss at-least once daily to remove any food particles that may be lodged in between your teeth.
2. Salty Water
Salt has for so long been used as a disinfectant, and is thus very effective in preventing and treating this condition as it kills any bacteria that could be present in the mouth. Swishing or gargling warm salty water after brushing your teeth will help to eliminate any bad breath.
3. Parsley
Parsley is known to contain anti-microbial properties that are effective in eliminating bacterial that could cause bad breath.
To use parsley, chew some fresh parsley leaves regularly and also after eating food containing garlic and raw onions as they may cause bad breath.
4. Yogurt
Yogurt contains probiotics that help in fighting any bad bacteria that could be present in the mouth and also in the gut. To help fight this condition, eat at-least one serving of natural yogurt daily.
5. Baking Soda
Baking Soda also known as bicarbonate of soda helps to kill bacteria that could be present in the mouth. Some toothpastes contain baking soda but one can also make a mouth wash using baking soda by adding 2 tablespoons of baking soda to a glass of water and using it to swish/gargle. Do this regularly to prevent and treat this condition.
6. Vinegar
Vinegar is also good in treating this condition as it is acidic in nature which makes it hard for bacteria to thrive in the mouth.
To use vinegar, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to a glass of water and gargle after brushing your teeth.
7. Cloves
Cloves contain anti-bacterial properties that effectively prevent and treat this condition. Chew a few pieces of clove to deal with the problem of bad breath.
The above home remedies are very effective in the treatment of this condition, however if you still experience bad breath even after brushing your teeth and using the above remedies, it is advisable to visit a doctor as it could be a sign of a more serious health issue such as liver failure or ketoacidosis. It can also be halitosis or chronic bad breath which is a condition that can not be treated by simply brushing your teeth.
