Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, popularly known as Adele, is an English singer as well as songwriter. Laurie Adkins signed a recording contract with XL Recordings, after graduating from the BRIT School in 2006. She received the Brit Awards Critics’ Choice Award, in 2007, and won the BBC Sound of 2008 poll. In 2008, Adele’s debut album, 19, was released. The album is certified eight times platinum in the United Kingdom and three times platinum in the United States. It contains Adele’s first song, ‘Hometown Glory’, written when she was 16 years old and the song is based on her home suburb of West Norwood in London. In late 2008, Laurie Adkins made on Saturday Night Live and this boosted her career in the US. She won the awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, at the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009.

In 2011, she released her second studio album, 21, and it was critically well-received and surpassed the success of her debut, earning several awards in 2012, among them a record-tying 6 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year – two Brit Awards, including British Album of the Year and 3 American Music Awards, including Favorite Pop/Rock Album. The album has been certified seventeen times platinum in the United Kingdom, and is overall the 4th best-selling album in the nation. The album has held the top position longer than any album since 1985 and is certified diamond, in the United States. The album has sold more than 31 million copies, which was the best-selling album worldwide of 2011 and 2012. The success of album, 21, earned her several mentions in the Guinness Book of Records. Laurie was the first woman in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to have 3 simultaneous top 10 singles as a lead artist, with ‘Rolling in the Deep’, ‘Someone Like You’, and also ‘Set Fire to the Rain’, all of which topped the chart.

She released ‘Skyfall’, in 2012, which she co-wrote and recorded for the James Bond film of the similar name. The song, ‘Skyfall’, won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song, and also the Brit Award for British Single of the Year. She released her 3rd studio album, 25, in 2015, after taking a three-year break. The album became the year’s best-selling album and broke first-week sales records in both UK and US. She is a daughter of an English mother, Penny Adkins, and a Welsh father, Marc Evans. Her father left when she was 2 years old, leaving her mother to raise her. At the age of 4, she began singing and asserts that she became obsessed with voices. At the age of nine, Laurie Adkins and her mother, who by then had found work as a furniture maker and an adult-learning activities organiser, relocated to Brighton on the south coast of England in 1997.

It’s a song by Adele and was written by her and Dan Wilson for her 2nd studio album, 21. It is the second single and final track on the album, and song was inspired by a broken relationship, and lyrically speaks of her coming to terms with it. On 24 January 2011, XL Recordings released the song as the second single from the album in the UK and on 9 August 2011 in the US. Accompanied only by a piano in the song that was played by co-writer Wilson, she sings about the end of the relationship with her ex-boyfriend. It received widespread critical acclaim, with critics choosing the song as a highlight of album, 21, and praised the lyrics, its simple sound and her vocal performance. It became her first number-one single in the UK and stayed on the top of the chart for 5 weeks, following a well-received performance of the song at the 2011 Brit Awards. It also topped the charts in Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Italy, France as well as Switzerland. It has become her second number one in the US.

It’s a song recorded in Adele’s second studio album, 21. The song is the lead single and opening track on the album and was written by her and Paul Epworth. She describes it as a ‘dark blues-y gospel disco tune’ and the biggest crossover hit in the United States since 1985, the song gained radio airplay from many different radio formats. The song was first released on 29th November 2010 as the lead single from album, 21, in digital download format. The lyrics describe a scorned lover’s emotions.

It was highly acclaimed by music critics and represented a commercial breakthrough for her, propelling her to global superstardom. It reached number one in twelve countries and the top five in many more regions. The song was her first number-one song in the US, reaching the top spot on many Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 where it was number one for seven good weeks. She co-wrote the song with her producer, Greg Kurstin and the song is a piano ballad with soul influences, and lyrics that discuss themes of nostalgia as well as regret. It was acclaimed by music critics, upon release, who compared it favourably to her previous works and praised its lyrics, production and her vocal performance. The song was recorded in London’s Metropolis Studios.
